Origen.

La tinta cão es una uva tinta portuguesa que crece sobre todo en la región del Duero portugués (Douro) desde el siglo XVI, es una de las uvas que mejor se ha adaptado al clima caluroso y seco de la región. Es muy fiable y conserva su vigor inclusive en suelos poco fértiles. Sus pequeños racimos compactos formados por bayas pequeñas producen vinos de larga guarda, con acidez crujiente y textura aterciopelada, que pueden ser un poco duros y austeros cuando son jóvenes pero que desarrollan gran delicadeza con la edad.
