Los orígenes.

La bodega fué fundada en 1898 por los dos hermanos, Joan y Daniel Padró Valldosera, aunque el inicio de la actividad se considera que empezó mucho antes, ya que se han encontrado documentos antiguos que así lo testifican. La historia de Vins Padró se escribe a lo largo de cinco generaciones, en la que el trabajo y la dedicación de nuestros antepasados perdura hasta el día de hoy. Ahora es la nueva generación la que añade los nuevos conocimientos y los aplica en la elaboración del vino y cuidado de la vid. Hemos conseguido mejorar y adaptar las antiguas instalaciones, ya existentes, e incorporar las nuevas tecnologías enológicas, lo que nos permite la obtención de vinos de calidad. El proceso de envejecimiento se lleva a cabo con barricas de roble americano y francés. Envasamos nuestros vinos en la planta de nuestra bodega desde el año 1960. Los vinos de crianza se elaboran con las uvas obtenidas de las viñas más viejas. El parque de barricas alberga en él 650 de estas entre roble americano y francés.




Viñedos y bodega.

El área geográfica donde se encuentran nuestros viñedos y bodega, pertenece a la Denominación de Origen Tarragona. Entre las variedades de uva blanca encontramos macabeo, muscat, parellada y xarel.lo. A partir de estas elaboramos los vinos blancos, estas variedades aportan frescura, acidez, equilibrio y aromas frutales. Se han incorporado variedades como chardonnay para diversificar la gama y el estilo de los vinos según la demanda de los nuevos mercados. Así como el sauvignon blanc, que aporta elegancia a los vinos. En las variedades de uva tinta,la mayoritaria es la tempranillo.Se obtienen vinos de cuerpo ligero y afrutados tanto tintos como rosados. El merlot se ha ido incorporando en los nuevos vinos para enriquecerlos en finura y matices aromáticos. El resultado de su vinificación son unos vinos con mucha estructura y color,idóneos para la crianza en barricas de roble.

El suelo y el clima.

El clima de la DO Tarragona y la influencia directa del mar, con una orografía suave y un terreno excepcional, nos ofrecen unos vinos suaves, frescos y típicamente mediterráneos. La DO Tarragona cuenta con "terroirs" diversos, diferenciándose claramente los más cercanos al mar de aquellos otros que son vecinos del río Ebro. En la DO Tarragona el clima es mediterráneo con influencias continentales en la zona más alta del Valle del Ebro. Los viñedos están afectado por la marinada y el mistral en la zona del campo de Tarragona y por el mistral en la zona de la Ribera d'Ebre. Este clima mediterráneo se caracteriza por unos inviernos suaves y veranos mucho más calurosos, aunque están templados por la brisa marina. La precipitación media anual en el campo de Tarragona es de 475 mm y de la Ribera d'Ebre de 650 mm. En la Ribera d'Ebre los invierno son fríos y los veranos calurosos y muy luminosos. El desarrollo de la vid en este tipo de clima es óptimo y produce uvas de gran calidad que son perfectos para elaborar también vinos de licor.




Historia.

El ánfora que hay en el logotipo de la Denominación de Origen Tarragona sintetiza la presencia milenaria de la vitivinicultura en esta Denominación de Origen. También nos vincula con el Imperio Roma y su legado cultural ya que el ánfora era el recipiente de cerámica utilizado en la antigüedad para almacenar y transportar vino. A partir del siglo I dC., desde Tarraco, capital y centro político de una extensa provincia de Hispania, y puerto comercial de primer orden, salían muchos barcos cargados de ánforas llenas de vino en dirección a Roma, capital del Imperio, pero también había muchas que iban hacia la Galia, Germania o Britania. En estas exportaciones ya se hacía constar a sus vinos la procedencia geográfica de la Tarraconense tal y como lo demuestran los escritos de los autores latinos del siglo I como Silio Itálico, Marcial y Plinio El Joven. El Imperio Romano fue el verdadero impulsor de los vinos en las comarcas de Tarragona, los territorios de la Tarraconense destacaban por sus vinos y eran considerados los más privilegiados del imperio. En Tarragona siempre ha habido una gran vocación exportadora de vino, tanto es así que en la calle Real de Tarragona, junto al Puerto, fue una zona donde se concentraron una gran cantidad de Bodegas que exportaban con barcos sus vinos en toda Europa. Pero mantener esta posición de privilegio en los mercados internacionales sólo se consigue a partir de una constante innovación en el cultivo de la vid y la elaboración del vino. Cuando el oidio apareció en el litoral y prelitoral tarraconense a mediados del siglo XIX se destruyó una parte importante de viña, entonces los viticultores replantaron viñedos en las zonas más cercanas al litoral. También con la aparición de la filoxera a finales del siglo XIX hubo una gran destrucción y una posterior gran replantación de viñedos. Estos cambios fueron acompañados de la formación del movimiento cooperativo, muy importante en Cataluña, que impulsó la construcción de bodegas modernistas a varias localidades, encargados a arquitectos tan importantes como César Martinell, discípulo de Gaudí. Cabe destacar la construcción de la Estación Enológica de Reus, en 1910, para demostrar la importancia de la viticultura en esta zona del país. Fue una de las primeras de todo el Estado. La Estación Enológica de Reus acogió la primera Escuela de Enología que hubo en Cataluña. Este edificio fue sin duda el antecedente de la actual Facultad de Enología creada en 1997 por la Universidad Rovira i Virgili. La DO Tarragona como tal se creó en 1945 y su primer reglamento se aprobó por el Ministerio de Agricultura el 25 de marzo de 1947. Esta denominación de origen se creó inicialmente para proteger vinos de licor, los llamados Tarragona Clásicos. Fue posteriormente, en 1959, cuando se empezaron a proteger los vinos secos y también los semidulces.




Zona geográfica y variedades de uva.

La zona de producción de la DO Tarragona presenta dos zonas claramente diferenciadas. La zona del Camp de Tarragona, con las comarcas del Alt Camp, Baix Camp y el Tarragonès, y la zona de la Ribera d'Ebre. Nuestro territorio se sitúa entre el río Ebro y el Mar Mediterráneo. El relieve de la DO es sencillo, la mayor parte del territorio se encuentra por debajo de los 600m y la mayoría de viña está entre los 100 y los 400 metros. Con respecto a las variedades de uva, la uva blanco en la DO Tarragona predomina sobre la uva negra. La superficie plantada de variedades blancas supone un 83% de la superficie total y el 17% corresponde a variedades tintas. Las variedades de uva con las que se elaboran los vinos de la DO Tarragona son, en uva blanca, el Macabeu, Cartoixà o Xarel·lo, la Parellada, el Moscatell Frontignan, el Moscatell d'Alexandria, la Garnatxa Blanca, la Malvasia de Sitges, el Subirat Parent o Malvasia, el Xarel·lo Vermell, el Sumoll Blanc, el Chardonnay, el Sauvignon Blanc y el Vinyater. Con respecto a las variedades de uvas tintas tenemos el Ull de Llebre / Tempranillo, el Sumoll, la Cariñena, la Garnacha Negra, el Merlot, el Syrah, el Pinot Noir, el Cabernet Sauvignon.




El cooperativismo.

El cooperativismo fue un movimiento muy importante en la historia del asociacionismo en Cataluña. En la DO Tarragona el movimiento cooperativo fue y es muy importante ya que aglutina la mayor parte de los viticultores que producen uva en el territorio de la DO. Las cooperativas siempre han mantenido el vínculo con la DO Tarragona, esto nos permite tener presencia en todo el territorio. Origen.

Hasta hace no demasiado tiempo, se tenía la sospecha de que la tempranillo y la pinot noir estaban emparentadas, pero recientes investigaciones ampelográficas descartan casi al cien por ciento esa posibilidad. La vitis vinífera es, en España, el antecesor común a la mayoría de las vides cultivadas actualmente y fue introducido en la zona sur de la Península Ibérica por los fenicios. Posteriormente se extendió por toda España, aunque sólo existen algunas referencias al nombre tempranilla. En el siglo XII, en el Libro de Alexandre, se mencionan las uvas por el nombre “tempraniella” refiriéndose a zonas que hoy se encontrarían en la Ribera del Duero. Hasta el siglo XVII, esta variedad se cultivaba exclusivamente en la España continental, donde las condiciones climáticas del tercio norte de la península eran las más apropiadas para su desarrollo. En el siglo XVII los colonizadores españoles llevaron a América semillas de tempranillo, manteniéndose prácticamente inalterada genéticamente hasta la actualidad. La uva tempranillo está actualmente disfrutando de un “renacimiento” en la producción vinícola mundial, sobre todo como resultado de los esfuerzos de una "nueva ola" de cultivadores españoles, que mostraron que era posible producir vinos de gran carácter y calidad en zonas fuera de la región riojana.




Características.

La uva tempranillo es una variedad de ciclo corto con brotación en época media y maduración temprana, de buena fertilidad y alta producción que suele ser regular. Las cepas de esta variedad son vigorosas y de porte muy erguido. Producen racimos grandes, con hombros marcados, compactos, uniformes en el tamaño y en el color de las bayas, su pedúnculo es de tamaño medio y poco lignificado, excepto en la base. Las uvas tienen un tamaño entre mediano y grande, con epidermis muy oscura y tonalidades azuladas, esféricas y muy implantadas en su pedicelo lo que las hace de difícil desprendimiento. El hollejo es grueso y su pulpa, sin apenas pigmentación, es blanda, carnosa y muy jugosa. Esta variedad de uva también recibe el nombre de Cencibel, Temprana, Tinto fino, Tinta fina, Tinta de Toro, Tinta del Pais, Ull de llebre, Tinto Roriz Primerenc, Aranda, Argand, Chinchillana, Marinera, Santa Ana, Santiaguera, Ullada. Debido a su gran sensibilidad a las plagas y enfermedades, particularmente la filoxera que devastó las vides en el siglo XIX, y aún amenaza actualmente los viñedos, la tempranillo española ha sido a menudo injertada en portainjertos más resistentes, de lo que resulta un estilo de uva ligeramente diferente a aquellos hoy cultivados en Chile y Argentina. La uva tempranillo es muy regular en el cuajado, muy sensible a plagas y enfermedades, poco resistente a la sequía extrema y a las temperaturas altas. Variedad muy sensible a las enfermedades de la madera especialmente eutipiosis y complejo de la yesca. También es muy sensible al oídio, polilla del racimo, a los cicadélidos y a los ácaros, así como a las roturas por viento intenso si no están los sarmientos bien entutorados. Tiene una resistencia media al mildiu y al black rot. Soporta bastante bien los fríos de primavera ya que en este caso la brotación se retrasa. Poco sensible a la excoriosis. Tolera bien la sequía salvo si ésta es muy extrema. Responde bien a los aportes hídricos.




Zonas de cultivo.

A pesar de su aparente fragilidad, la tempranillo viajó ampliamente durante el último siglo, después de mucho ensayo y error, se ha establecido en un sorprendente número de países por todo el mundo. En España se encuentran viñedos de esta variedad en casi la totalidad del país, estando autorizada en 38 Denominaciones de Origen y considerada como variedad preferente en 14 de ellas. Se está adaptando muy bien en la viticultura de sudamérica. Durante la última década, han plantado tempranillo cultivadores de lugares tan lejanos como Australia, los Estados Unidos y Sudáfrica.




Vinos.

Los vinos de tempranillo suelen elaborarse en coupage, pero siendo muy mayoritariamente tempranillo, normalmente más del 90% de la mezcla. Se suelen aportar proporciones de otras variedades como garnacha, mazuela, graciano, merlot y cabernet Sauvignon, para aportarle azúcar y acidez. Los vinos de tempranillo tienen un carácter muy singular, con mucho cuerpo, acidez suave y taninos secos. Es una variedad que integra a la perfección con el roble, danto resultados espectaculares con su crianza en barricas de roble, tanto francés como americano, que aportan notas de vainilla y coco, frutas y sabores especiados.

Origen.

La uva merlot, es una variedad de uva tinta de origen bordelés (Burdeos), al sudoeste de Francia que pertenece a la misma familia de los cabernet. Sus primeras plantaciones datan del siglo XIX. Es una cepa típica del Médoc Francés que, tras la Cabernet Sauvignon, es la segunda uva más plantada en el mundo, como consecuencia de que se aclimatan perfectamente a la mayoría de climas, tanto templados como cálidos. El 14% de las uvas plantadas en Francia son de esta variedad, mientras en Italia alcanza un 3%. La palabra merlot proviene de merle noir (palabra francesa), cuyo significado es mirlo. Su color es azul negruzco similar a la uva merlot.




Características.

La cepa de uva merlot bastante vigorosa, porte semierguido, buena fertilidad pero con poca producción, no se desarrollan muchos racimos por planta. Estos racimos son de tamaño medio a pequeño, con forma cónica alargada y no demasiado compacto. Las uvas merlot son pequeñas, muy uniforme a lo largo del racimo, esféricas, con un hollejo grueso, de color azul muy oscuro. Su pulpa es muy jugosa, consistente, sabrosa, dulce y despigmentada. El desborre es precoz y la maduración entre temprana y media, unos días después que el tempranillo. Si se vendimia antes se logran vinos más ácidos con lo que se aumenta su potencial para elaborar vinos de guarda. Si se retrasa su vendimia se obtienen vinos jugosos y frutales. Se adapta bien a suelos arcillosos y y ricos en calcio. La uva merlot también recibe el nombre de Alicante, Bigney Rouge, Crabutet noir, Merlau Rouge, Merlaut Noir, Merlo, Merlo Noir, Merlot Rouge, Planta de Médoc, Sème du flube, Sémilhon rouge, además de Vitraille. Variedad poco sensible a las enfermedades de la madera y a la desecación del raquis, aunque si es sensible al Mildiu y a la botritis en la maduración. Sensible al Black roth, y también a Cicadelidos y los Ácaros. Las heladas primaverales le afectan, aunque no excesivamente, pero su madera es muy sensible a los inviernos demasiado fríos. Se adapta muy bien a los distintos tipos de suelo. La cosecha con sequía es muy escasa, pero se suple bien con el riego por goteo. Sensible al corrimiento del racimo como consecuencia de la climatología lo que se puede corregir aportando boro. Requiere climas frescos, ya que en climas calurosos pierde pronto su acidez y su equilibrio tánico. Es fundamental realizar un adecuado abonado potásico., Se aconseja la conducción en espaldera, para el apoyo de su vegetación funcionando muy bien con poda de Guyot de siete u ocho yemas.




Zonas de cultivo.

La mayor presencia de la uva merlot se da en Italia y también Francia, en la región del Médoc. En España podemos encontrarla en Navarra y también en Cataluña, La Mancha, Huesca y se está empezando a plantar en Andalucia. También se localizan viñedos de merlot en la península balcánica, en Bulgaria, Croacia, Eslovenia, Montenegro, además de Rumania. Fuera de Europa existen plantaciones de esta variedad en California y región nordeste de Estados Unidos, Argentina, Nueva Zelanda, Sudáfrica, Chile y Australia.




Vinos.

Produce vinos redondos con cuerpo y estructurados. Vinos intensos de buena graduación alcohólica, que agradecen la crianza en madera. Son vinos con pocos taninos y acidez ligera, por lo tanto, se pueden mezclar con vinos más tánicos para aportarles así equilibrio. Es un vino más suave y también más redondo que el Cabernet Sauvignon. Aromas complejos, además de elegantes. Aromas a frutas rojas como cereza, ciruela. Especias, tabaco y también trufa. Los vinos más jóvenes poseen un aroma a frutas rojas, como la confitura bayas, cassis y notas vegetales. En los crianza encontramos toques de vainillas, frutas rojas y maduras como ciruela, tabaco, humo, cedro y también tostados, torrefacto como el café. Es de menor carácter tánico y además posee menos acidez que la cabernet Sauvignon, por lo que se suele mezclar con ésta, así como con la cabernet franc, resultando vinos más ligeros y frutales. También se usa para crear vinos merlot monovarietales.
