Los vinos y el clima.

La región del Véneto se puede dividir aproximadamente en tres áreas geográficas, distinguidas por su topografía y geología. Origen.

La uva Gewürztraminer tiene un origen incierto debido a la cierta predisposición que tiene a las mutaciones genéticas. La opción más aceptada, en cuanto a su origen, es que procede de Grecia, descendiente de la uva Aminea; de allí se habría trasladado a Termeno (Tramin) en el Alto Adige/Süd Tirol italiano, y en esta ciudad habría tomado la parte fundamental de su nombre, Traminer. En Tramin es donde comienza su apasionante historia; es conocida como Traminer desde hace más de mil años. El primer registro escrito donde aparece con este nombre data del año 1.000. En algún momento, sin fecha conocida y de forma natural, la Traminer blanca mutó genéticamente y su piel cambió, del blanco al rosa; esta mutación también produjo un cambio aromático, resultando una nueva variedad mucho más intensa, similar al moscatel, debido, en gran medida, a la una mayor acumulación de terpenos. La nueva variedad resultante de la mutación fue conocida como Gewürztraminer o Savagning Rosé, dependiendo de la zona de cultivo en Alemania o Francia. Existen bastantes sinonimias, aparte de Savagning Rosé, también es conocida en Francia como Traminer Musqué, Traminer Parfumé, en Alemania como Traminer Aromatique, Roter Traminer y en Italia recibe los nombres de Traminer Rosé, Traminer Rosso y Termener Aromatico.




Características.

La uva gewürztraminer se desarrolla en cepas vigorosas, de porte erguido a semierguido, que prefiere suelos profundos y arcillosos con portainjertos débiles o medianamente vigorosos, suele cultivarse en espaldera y responde bien a podas largas. Su desborre es precoz y maduración de segunda época. Los racimos son de tamaño reducido a muy reducido, con forma troncocónica, medianamente compactos y poco uniformes, pedúnculo mediano. Las uvas son pequeñas, ovoides, pero de sección circular y difícil desprendimiento. El hollejo es grueso con un color característico verde rosado. La pulpa es blanda con tonos rosados al menos en las partes más iluminadas, su sabor tiene unos toques de moscatel, peculiares y muy agradables e intensos. Es una variedad que resiste muy bien al frío, aunque las heladas primaverales provocan daños irreparables sus ella. No se ve demasiado afectada por el oídio ni por la botritis, pero sí por el mildiu, la clorosis férrica, el corrimiento del racimo, la podredumbre ácida, las enfermedades de la madera y la pérdida de bayas en desarrollo, por lo que requiere ser injertado sobre patrones poco vigorosos. Es muy sensible a la sequía y al desecamiento del raspón.




Zonas de cultivo.

El cultivo de la Gewürztraminer tradicionalmente se ha extendido por las laderas de las orillas del Rin, llegando hasta Alsacia; actualmente se puede encontrar repartida por todo el mundo, pudiendo encontrar viñedos de gewürztraminer en Alemania, España, Andorra, Italia, Francia, Estados Unidos, Chile, Argentina, Nueva Zelanda y Australia. En España, la gewürztraminer está autorizada en: Aragón, Andalucía, Asturias, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Cataluña, Extremadura, Navarra, La Rioja y la Comunidad Valenciana. Aunque está presente en estas provincias y en las denominaciones correspondientes, su máximo potencial se desarrolla cuando se cultiva en zonas altas, en torno a los 900 metros sobre el nivel del mar.




Vinos.

EL vino típico elaborado con Gewürztraminer tiene una capa dorada más o menos intensa, cuerpo bien formado, generoso en alcohol, delicado pero presente e inconfundible aroma a rosas y a lichis, amoroso, envolvente…, pero, cuando esas cepas, resistentes al frío y poco amigas de la sequía, crecen en Alemania, en Suiza, en Francia, en California, en Argentina, en Europa oriental o en Australia, el resultado es bien diferente, y aun así, inconfundible. En el norte, en las viñas frías, sus elaboradores los califican como más largos y elegantes, mientras en el sur, en las viñas más soleadas, se definen como más intensos y expresivos.
