Una pequeña provincia.

En el universo de los vinos espumosos hay una pequeña galaxia que se llama Franciacorta, localizada en la provincia de Brescia, en la región de Lombardía. Franciacorta es un término que define tres conceptos: un vino, un método de elaboración (que es el tradicional o clásico) y un territorio. Un territorio que cubre 230 km² y que comprende 19 municipios en los que un total de 104 productores que en el ejercicio 2011 produjeron algo más de 11 millones de botellas de una calidad más que aceptable y que están colocando en el mercado a un precio no inferior a los 10 euros por botella. Junto a los quizá más famosos Prosecco y Asti Spumante completan la trilogía de las burbujas italianas, y sin duda son los mejores. El vino espumoso elaborado por el método clásico, que es como se llama en Italia, es decir, el 'champenois', al que no se añade licor de expedición después del degüelle. Se le otorgó el estatus de DOC en 1967, la designación también incluyó vinos tintos y blancos. Desde 1995, la clasificación DOCG se aplica exclusivamente a los vinos espumosos de la zona.

Historia.

Los vinos tranquilos de esta área tienen tradiciones antiguas, mencionadas por Virgil y Plinio el Viejo , y documentadas en los libros del Ayuntamiento de Brescia como "Franzacurta" desde 1277. El nombre puede derivarse del estado exento de impuestos de las ciudades de la región en la Edad Media. Los vinos no se llamaban Franciacorta hasta 1957, cuando Guido Berlucchi lanzó un vino blanco llamado Pinot di Franciacorta. Se le permitió a un ambicioso joven enólogo que trabajaba para Berlucchi, Franco Ziliani , perseguir la ambición de producir un vino espumoso fino, y en 1961 produjo 3.000 botellas de vino espumoso, también vendidas bajo el nombre de Pinot di Franciacorta. Desde el 1 de agosto de 2003, Franciacorta ha sido el único vino italiano que no está obligado a declarar su denominación DOCG en la etiqueta, de la misma manera que un Champagne puede excluir de las etiquetas su AOC. De 1996 a 2006, las ventas de Franciacorta crecieron de 2.9 millones a 6.7 millones de botellas. Con la creación del DOCG Franciacorta, el antiguo DOC pasó a llamarse Terre di Franciacorta para los vinos tranquilos y luego en 2008, Curtefranca. El cambio de nombre era un requisito legal para evitar la confusión entre los vinos tranquilos DOC y los vinos espumosos DOCG. Estos están hechos en dos tipos: un Bianco estilo Borgoña basado en Chardonnay o Pinot bianco o una mezcla de ambos, y un Rosso estilo Burdeos basado en Cabernet Franc o Cabernet Sauvignon o ambos, y Merlot, con menor cantidades de Nebbiolo y Barbera . Las uvas para Franciacorta se cultivan en viñedos estrictamente delimitados en las comunas, Adro , Capriolo , Cazzago San Martino , Cellatica , Coccaglio , Colonia , Corte Franca , Erbusco , Gussago , Iseo , Monticelli Brusati , Ome , Paderno Franciacorta , Paratico , Passirano , Provaglio d 'Iseo , Rodengo Saiano , Rovato y Brescia , con condiciones de suelo descritas como ricas en minerales, grava calcárea, calcárea y suelos morenos arenosos que cubren un lecho de roca caliza. El DOCG declaró que los viñedos se extienden a 2.200 hectáreas, 5.400 acres, y la distribución de las variedades de uva permitidas es 85% Chardonnay , 10% Pinot nero y 5% Pinot bianco.
