Desde 1896, cuando se cultivaba el primer viñedo familiar Collavini, nuestra historia es de pasión, un fuerte vínculo con el planeta y un enfoque interminable en la innovación. La mejor forma de expresar sus valores son los vinos tranquilos y espumosos de nuestra producción, todos marcados por el ritmo estacional de los viñedos en Corno di Rosazzo.

Las áreas DOC Friuli.

Cuando se habla de las múltiples regiones DOC Friuli hay dos que se destacan, " Collio " y " Colli Orientali del Friuli ". Estas dos áreas son famosas por dar a luz a los mejores vinos de Friuli Venezia Giulia. Entre las provincias de Udine y Gorizia, a 100 - 350 metros sobre el nivel del mar, se encuentran las colinas memorables de las que se originó nuestra tradición vitivinícola friuliana.
Los terruños en esta región son marga y arenisca, que se llaman localmente "ponca". Estos suelos ahora son cultivables gracias al arduo trabajo de generaciones de enólogos que dieron forma a estos empinados viñedos de Friulian en terrazas organizadas. Sin embargo, Friuli no está hecho solo de colinas: dos tercios de sus distritos vinícolas están representados por llanuras y este tipo de paisaje se asemeja a las tumbas francesas de Burdeos. El terruño.

Los factores que contribuyen a la calidad de nuestros vinos son: Geología, exposición, distancia de las montañas, altitud e influencia de los vientos dominantes. Una combinación de estos elementos da como resultado diferentes zonas y microclimas que a su vez desarrollan vinos con sus características particulares. La interacción óptima entre el sitio y la variedad es, por lo tanto, la clave final para producir un vino de excelencia. La bodega se encuentra en Corno di Rosazzo, en la zona sureste del DOC Colli Orientali del Friuli y limita con el DOC Collio de Dolegna y Cormons al este. Teniendo en cuenta la gran variedad de colinas de Friulian y que nuestra producción se basa en estas dos áreas DOC, se deduce que nuestro terroir es bastante complejo.
- EL TERROIR. " Ponca ", es una mezcla rocosa específica de suelos que se originó en cuencas de lagos poco profundos donde las corrientes causaron la alternancia frecuente de capas duras y blandas; arenisca y marga. En términos de disponibilidad de agua, la sedimentación secuencial de las capas calibra la cantidad de agua disponible que una vid podría usar. La capa de arenisca transmite y drena el exceso de agua; y luego la marga funciona como una esponja, absorbiendo y reteniendo el agua en el suelo. La totalidad del lecho de roca subyacente y su conexión íntima con las raíces de la vid le dan a estos vinos friulianos “Ponca” sus características.
- EL SOL. Una vid funciona como un panel fotovoltaico que absorbe la energía de la luz . Dado el aumento gradual de la latitud, las colinas son un buen lugar para plantar viñedos. Mientras que los viñedos cultivados en las laderas del sur absorben más luz durante el día, los ubicados en el sureste interceptan las bajas temperaturas y la luz en la mañana y reducen su fotosíntesis en la tarde. Esta condición resulta particularmente buena para las variedades de vino blanco aromático (Sauvignon y Chardonnay ) o para las variedades tintas "condimentadas" como el Schioppettino. Por otro lado, los viñedos que se enfrentan a una exposición al sudeste dan lo mejor de sí durante las horas más calurosas del día, ofreciéndonos variedades "cálidas" de vinos blancos ( Ribolla Gialla , Friulano, Malvasia) u uvas rojas maduras debido a sus taninos.
- LAS MONTAÑAS. El viento frío, que desciende progresivamente de las montañas, empuja el aire caliente hacia el valle y las llanuras. Como consecuencia, las laderas de las montañas serán más frías que las llanuras.
- LA ALTURA. Las colinas Collio y Colli Orientali pueden alcanzar los 250 metros sobre el nivel del mar y la brecha entre los lados más bajo y más alto es de aproximadamente 150 metros. Dado que la altitud afecta el flujo de aire, la regla es que cuanto mayor sea la altitud, menor será la temperatura y la humedad.
- LOS VIENTOS. El Bora , que a veces sopla a gran velocidad desde el este y el noreste, es el viento que influye principalmente en nuestra viticultura montañosa . Limpiar la humedad y refrescar las laderas más expuestas, la Bora, es beneficiosa para toda el área de Collio, así como para la parte sur de Colli Orientali.
Incluso si estos cinco puntos clave y cruciales representan el potencial enológico de nuestros terroirs friulianos, la geopedología todavía juega un papel importante en su definición.

Origen.

La uva merlot, es una variedad de uva tinta de origen bordelés (Burdeos), al sudoeste de Francia que pertenece a la misma familia de los cabernet. Sus primeras plantaciones datan del siglo XIX. Es una cepa típica del Médoc Francés que, tras la Cabernet Sauvignon, es la segunda uva más plantada en el mundo, como consecuencia de que se aclimatan perfectamente a la mayoría de climas, tanto templados como cálidos. El 14% de las uvas plantadas en Francia son de esta variedad, mientras en Italia alcanza un 3%. La palabra merlot proviene de merle noir (palabra francesa), cuyo significado es mirlo. Su color es azul negruzco similar a la uva merlot.

Características.

La cepa de uva merlot bastante vigorosa, porte semierguido, buena fertilidad pero con poca producción, no se desarrollan muchos racimos por planta. Estos racimos son de tamaño medio a pequeño, con forma cónica alargada y no demasiado compacto. Las uvas merlot son pequeñas, muy uniforme a lo largo del racimo, esféricas, con un hollejo grueso, de color azul muy oscuro. Su pulpa es muy jugosa, consistente, sabrosa, dulce y despigmentada. El desborre es precoz y la maduración entre temprana y media, unos días después que el tempranillo. Si se vendimia antes se logran vinos más ácidos con lo que se aumenta su potencial para elaborar vinos de guarda. Si se retrasa su vendimia se obtienen vinos jugosos y frutales. Se adapta bien a suelos arcillosos y y ricos en calcio. La uva merlot también recibe el nombre de Alicante, Bigney Rouge, Crabutet noir, Merlau Rouge, Merlaut Noir, Merlo, Merlo Noir, Merlot Rouge, Planta de Médoc, Sème du flube, Sémilhon rouge, además de Vitraille. Variedad poco sensible a las enfermedades de la madera y a la desecación del raquis, aunque si es sensible al Mildiu y a la botritis en la maduración. Sensible al Black roth, y también a Cicadelidos y los Ácaros. Las heladas primaverales le afectan, aunque no excesivamente, pero su madera es muy sensible a los inviernos demasiado fríos. Se adapta muy bien a los distintos tipos de suelo. La cosecha con sequía es muy escasa, pero se suple bien con el riego por goteo. Sensible al corrimiento del racimo como consecuencia de la climatología lo que se puede corregir aportando boro. Requiere climas frescos, ya que en climas calurosos pierde pronto su acidez y su equilibrio tánico. Es fundamental realizar un adecuado abonado potásico., Se aconseja la conducción en espaldera, para el apoyo de su vegetación funcionando muy bien con poda de Guyot de siete u ocho yemas.

Zonas de cultivo.

La mayor presencia de la uva merlot se da en Italia y también Francia, en la región del Médoc. En España podemos encontrarla en Navarra y también en Cataluña, La Mancha, Huesca y se está empezando a plantar en Andalucia. También se localizan viñedos de merlot en la península balcánica, en Bulgaria, Croacia, Eslovenia, Montenegro, además de Rumania. Fuera de Europa existen plantaciones de esta variedad en California y región nordeste de Estados Unidos, Argentina, Nueva Zelanda, Sudáfrica, Chile y Australia.

Vinos.

Produce vinos redondos con cuerpo y estructurados. Vinos intensos de buena graduación alcohólica, que agradecen la crianza en madera. Son vinos con pocos taninos y acidez ligera, por lo tanto, se pueden mezclar con vinos más tánicos para aportarles así equilibrio. Es un vino más suave y también más redondo que el Cabernet Sauvignon. Aromas complejos, además de elegantes. Aromas a frutas rojas como cereza, ciruela. Especias, tabaco y también trufa.
