La uva.

La famosa uva Trebbiano es el componente principal del vino Lugana. Es una de las variedades de uva cultivadas más antiguas. Contiene muchos beneficios, dado que, a pesar de ser poco exigente, absorbe muchos aromas y minerales. Estas propiedades en combinación con las condiciones locales crean una uva de color especial con un sabor afrutado y muy pocos taninos. El vino.

La que solía ser una amplia planicie pantanosa se rehabilitó durante el siglo XV y es hoy uno de los mayores cultivos de vid en las orillas Sur del Lago de Garda. La zona del vino Lugana se llama comúnmente “zona bifronte”: esto porque pertenece a dos regiones, Lombardía y Véneto. La parte lombarda predomina tanto por lo que se refiere a la cantidad, siendo cuatro municipios, Desenzano, Sirmione, Pozzolengo y Lonato, ubicados en provincia de Brescia, como por la calidad de los vinos: 75 de las mil hectáreas cultivadas están en el territorio de Brescia. Sin embargo, la parte véneta – Peschiera del Garda – tiene la primacía del volumen de negocios, embotellando el 60% del total, o sea alrededor de nueve millones de botellas cada año. La parte más amplia se extiende longitudinalmente a lo largo del interior del lado Sur del lago, donde se encuentran los viñedos históricos en los pueblos de Lugana y Rovizza. En cambio, en la zona véneta se hallan los viñedos cru, precisamente en San Benedetto di Lugana. El suelo del Lugana no es fácil de cultivar: arcilloso, calcáreo, cada vez más arenoso al subir hacia la colina; compacto durante las temporadas secas y pantanoso después de la lluvia. Sin embargo, estas características hacen el Lugana tan distintos de los otros vinos, con perfumes a frutos cítricos y almendras, además de intensa acidez y sabor sápido. Se producen cinco tipos de vinos: el Lugana base, el Superior, el Reserva, el Vendimia Tarda y el Espumoso. En su territorio, el Lugana representa casi el 90% de la producción. Sus aromas son ligeros y frescos. En 1998, el pliego de condiciones introdujo la tipología superior, un Lugana con envejecimiento de por lo menos un año después de la cosecha. Esto le dona un color más dorado y perfumes más complejos. En cambio, el Lugana Riserva es la evolución natural de la tipología Superior. Tiene que criarse durante un mínimo de 24 meses, 6 de los cuales en botella. Por eso tiene colores más intensos y perfumes más complejos. Estos dos tipos pueden tener hasta casi diez años, a diferencia de los dos/tres años del Lugana base. El Lugana Vendemmia Tardiva – Vendimia Tarda es una novedad del Consorcio: las uvas se cosechan muy tarde, entre finales de octubre y comienzos de noviembre, sin más marchitamientos. Esto hace que el vino sea más suave, pero no demasiado dulce, porque el azúcar se equilibra con la acidez del vino. Por fin, el Lugana Espumoso: presente a partir de 1975, se produce tanto con el método Charmat o Martinotti donándole frescura y perfume de frutos cítricos, como con el método clásico, con el cual se consiguen perfumes más complejos y notas “crujientes” de levadura.

Territorio.

El área geográfica adecuada para la producción de vino Lugana DOC se extiende en la parte central del valle del Po, que incluye el lago de Garda, en un territorio adecuadamente ventilado, brillante y favorable para el desempeño de todas las funciones vegetativas-productivas de los viñedos. El área de producción de vinos de Lugana DOC está encerrada en: la provincia de Brescia y el territorio de los municipios de Sirmione, Desenzano del Garda, Lonato del Garda y Pozzolengo y en la provincia de Verona y el territorio del municipio Peschiera del Garda.

Vinificación.

En las etapas de vinificación, solo las prácticas enológicas justas y constantes en el área son adecuadas para dar a los vinos sus características de calidad peculiares. Pequeña historia.
