Historia.
Fundada por Adriano Ramos Pinto en 1880, Casa Ramos Pinto rápidamente se hizo notar, en su momento, por la estrategia innovadora y emprendedora. Asociado con los vinos de calidad embotellados, que comenzó a operar en el mercado brasileño en el siglo 20 y se convirtió rápidamente en el responsable de la mitad del vino exportado a América del Sur, mientras que todavía estaba conquistando generaciones de fieles clientes en Portugal y Europa. Estos fueron los resultados naturales de una estrategia con visión de futuro, basado en la modernización de la selección, dosificación y circuitos de envejecimiento, la investigación del vino continua y el cuidado especial que Adriano Ramos Pinto dedicada al envasado y promoción de sus vinos. Por tanto, los vinos de Ramos Pinto se han convertido en una referencia de calidad. En 1990, Casa Ramos Pinto pasó a formar parte del Grupo de Roederer, cuya historia tiene características idénticas. Así, las cualidades que dieron fama a la Casa Ramos Pinto tomó una dimensión internacional. Casa Ramos Pinto siempre ha entendido que la calidad de sus vinos comienza en la tierra de la región del Duero, por lo que tomó la propiedad de varias fincas, cuidadosamente seleccionado en la Región Determinada. Fue el primer paso de una carrera vinícola que ha invertido en una filosofía de auto-abastecimiento, cuya finalidad es, en el corto plazo, garantizar la producción total de la uva utilizada en los puertos y los vinos tranquilos. La búsqueda de la excelencia es evidente en la calidad efectiva de los vinos que produce y la continuación de una tradición pionera en las áreas de investigación, que durante décadas ha guiado su estrategia de producción. Desde el principio, la Casa Ramos Pinto estableció una estricta política de auto-producción, lo que significa que sólo produce vinos con uvas de sus propias fincas. Con un montón de determinación y la inversión sustancial, Ramos Pinto ha establecido objetivos de plantación que se ha logrado cumplir con los años. Su área sembrada se ha estabilizado en un total de 360 hectáreas en la región del Douro. Esta política les permite asegurar la calidad incuestionable y la mejor selección disponible de las uvas de vino.
Viñedos.
- Bom retiro : La Quinta do Bom Retiro, bordeada por las aguas del río Torto, está ubicada en Pinhão, en la región del Duero. Tiene una superficie total de 110 hectáreas; el altidud varía entre 110 y 400 metros y sólo 62 hectáreas están reservadas para la viña. Las variedades de uva producidas son exclusivamente tintas y además del 40% de mezcla, hay 19% Touriga Nacional, 16% Tinta Barroca, 11% Touriga Franca, 8% Sousão y 6% Tinta Roriz.
- Urtiga : Igualmente que la Quinta do Bom Retiro, la Quinta da Urtiga está ubicada en Pinhão, en la región del Duero. La Quinta tiene una superficie total de 4 hectáreas que varía entre 290 y 324 metros sobre el nivel del mar, de las cuales 3,5 hectáreas están dedicadas a la viña, que alcanza una edad media de 80 años. Las variedades de uva producidas están compuestas al 100% por mezclas y tintos.
- Bons Ares : La Quinta dos Bons Ares está también situada en la región del Duero, a 600 metros de altitud. Tiene una superficie total de 47 hectáreas, de las cuales 25 hectáreas están reservadas a viñedos. Las variedades de vid producidas en la Quinta dos Bons Ares son las siguientes: 13% Touriga Nacional, 6% Viozinho y el 81% restante se reservan para otras variedades como Folgazão, Rabigato y Touriga Franca.
- Ervamoira : Quinta d'Ervamoira está situada en Vila Nova de Foz Côa, en la región del Duero. Tiene una superficie total de 234 hectáreas donde la altitud varía entre 110 y 340 metros. La viña alcanza las 150 hectáreas y su edad media es de 30 años. En Ervamoira, el método de plantación utilizado es exclusivamente vertical. Descripción.
La región del Douro está situada en el nordeste de Portugal, en la cuenca hidrográfica del río Duero. Una zona protegida por montañas que le confieren características climáticas idóneas para el desarrollo de una importante industria vitivinícola que produce vinos que seducen y sorprenden en todo el mundo. Otros vinos portugueses reconocidos internacionalmente son los de Oporto. Los vinos tintos con Denominación de Origen Douro se elaboran a partir de uvas autóctonas, como la touriga nacional, touriga franca, tinta roriz, tinta barroca y tinto cão. La gran mayoría de los vinos procede de la mezcla (coupage) de varios tipos de uvas, con una complejidad y riqueza sin igual. La uva touriga nacional utilizada para elaborar este excelente vino tinto se vendimia de cepas viejas con más de 80 años de antigüedad. De profundo color rojo oscuro con ribetes violáceos, tiene aroma a cerezas muy maduras y ciruelas, a chocolate negro y a especias, como el clavo y la vainilla, con fuertes toques minerales. En la boca es carnoso, casi se puede masticar, con un recorrido por el paladar largo, untuoso y persistente. Un vino que deja huella.
Carácter Douro.
Al otro lado de la frontera, el Duero se llama Douro. Un cambio de nombre que da lugar a un paisaje majestuoso y a una enorme variedad enológica donde los Oportos son los reyes, y su corte, tintos y blancos que el consumidor empieza a apreciar. Los vinos tranquilos lusitanos, hermanos de los célebres y casi aristocráticos oportos, demuestran, con pocos años de vida, un nivel de calidad que los situa entre los primeros puestos del ranking. Mientras tanto, los legendarios oportos han continuado manteniendo su lugar entre la élite enológica, sostenidos por el arte de las mezclas y un más que trabajado marketing, al que apoya, en un discreto segundo plano, un emergente enoturismo que quiere revitalizar el lugar del cual proceden: el majestuoso paisaje de viñedos que bordea el territorio del río. Sin embargo, a pesar de que su carácter, marcado por la corriente fluvial, encuentra muchas similitudes con el resto de vinos del Duero (riberas, toros…), lo cierto es que estos productos continúan siendo casi desconocidos en España.
Los Douros blancos.
El esfuerzo realizado alrededor de los tintos no ha impedido el desarrollo en la región de unos blancos que están empezando a encontrar su sitio dentro del panorama de los vinos tranquilos portugueses. Se elaboran con variedades autóctonas (una apuesta que ha dotado a la región de una singularidad de la cual presume justificadamente), entre las que predominan la rabigato, la viosinho, la arinto, la malvasía, la moscatel y la confusa gouveio, confusa porque se puede encontrar con el nombre de verdelho, a pesar de que no es la misma que su sinónima de Madeira, y tampoco tiene nada que ver con la verdejo tan utilizada en España. Es precisamente esa frescura uno de los puntos comunes que tienen muchos vinos blancos de la región, aportada en parte por la tierra plagada de “xisto” o pizarra. La calidez de la zona (más de 40 grados en verano), que juega en su contra, provoca que los vinos no realicen la fermentación maloláctica.
Los Oportos.
En la misma región, donde nacen para ser envejecidos después en Vilanova de Gaia, los oportos mantienen el tipo de elegancia, complejidad y estilo propios de cada casa. Algunos elaboradores, y el propio IVDP, apuestan por reforzar el enoturismo en la ciudad y en el valle como una herramienta fortísima de conocimiento y difusión de estos vinos, no demasiado fáciles de entender para el inexperto. Y de paso, van rompiendo unos tópicos de consumo que pondrían los pelos de punta a elaboradores de vinos generosos en otras partes del mundo.
