Elaborado a partir de cepas de marsanne de más de 50 años y de rousanne de más de 40 años de edad. El resultado son vinos de calidad heterogénea con agradables colores y distinguida fruta fresca, un toque de austeridad y taninos especialmente marcados en algunas cuvées, por lo que les conviene la maduración en botella. En los grandes terruños las cepas viejas pudieron jugar completamente su rol de regulación y en ellas se ha obtenido una destacada concentración. En estas cuvées, los bajísimos rendimientos son una de las claves. Envejece en barricas nuevas y de un vino de roble francés Allier y Tronçais.

The production region of A.O.C. Hermitage is located in La región vinícola del norte del Ródano, al sur de Lyon. La denominación procede de la ciudad de Tain l'Hermitage. Las vides crecen en el lado suroeste de una empinada colina de granito frente al sol de la tarde y se pueden dividir en varios viñedos más pequeños. Estos son Les Bessards al oeste, L'Hermite y La Chapelle en la cima de la montaña, y Bessards, Le Méal, Les Greffieux y Murets al este.
